How does the site work? back to top

Simple – you tell us your name, address, where you work, which countries you fancy visiting and when you’d like to exchange homes. This info is then added to our database, which can only be accessed by other TeacherHomeSwap members (note - only your email address is visible to other members, see question 6 below). As a member, you are able to search the database by date or by location to find members to swap with. As an additional service, we’ll email you if a new member joins in the place you’d like to visit. Once you’ve found somewhere you’d like to visit, email the member and let them know. They’ll then tell you if they’re interested and you can make a private arrangement from there.

Through email and follow up phone calls you will become familiar with your exchange partner. All arrangements are made privately by you and you yourself choose who you want to exchange homes with. At TeacherHomeSwap, we guarantee that all our members are teachers at one of the international schools on our database. If you have a school email address, we automatically check its validity against the address we have on record for the school. If your school doesn’t give you your own email address then we personally check that you’ve given us the correct information before allowing you to join. This obviously takes a bit longer, but it’s for the security of all members.

How much does it cost to join? back to top

Nothing! This service is absolutely free! We make our money through advertising. In order to keep the site free, we need to attract as many members as possible - so please don't forget to tell all your friends about TeacherHomeSwap.

What do I need to do to join? back to top

Simply follow our step-by-step registration process; it’s very straightforward and it’s free! We just need your name, address and contact details, together with times when you want to exchange and where you would like to go to. You then become a TeacherHomeSwap member and you can swap homes as many times as you like each year. Research shows that exchanges are much more likely if you attach photos of your home. Your member’s page has a link that allows you to upload pictures - please try and do this when you register or soon after.

Can my contact details be accessed by just anyone browsing the website?

No, your contact details can only be accessed by other members – other verified international school teachers. We take the security of the information you give us very seriously – please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

What details about me will appear on the site? back to top

Only your email address(es) will be visible to other members and this will be the initial means of communication when you are interested in exchanging homes. The other personal information you give us (address and telephone number) is not accessible and kept in our records solely for security purposes. We will not share this information with anyone. See our Privacy Policy for more information on this.

How long should a swap last? back to top

That’s entirely up to you. When you join TeacherHomeSwap you’re given the option of entering as many availability dates as you like. You can also search our database by date, when you’re considering an exchange. We’d recommend adding all your holiday dates for the school year – this way you’re much more likely to enjoy frequent exchanges.

I’ve arranged an exchange and the other member has pulled out, what should I do? back to top

Obviously there’s always going to be unforeseeable cases when someone is no longer able to exchange (illness or a sudden change of home perhaps). We trust that you would be understanding of the other member’s situation in these circumstances, as hopefully they would be if the situation were reversed. However, if a member disrupts your holiday plans for no good reason, or if it happens more than once, then we reserve the right to suspend or cancel their membership. This is made clear in our Terms & Conditions, which all members agree to before joining. The bottom line is, we’re here to help, so if you have any problems with the service, please let us know.
