How does a home swap or a home exchange work?

As a verified member of Teacher Home Swap, you can search our database for location, dates, and availability. Once you find a potential partner, you can suggest a swap via the Teacher Home Swap platform. The suggestion will be relayed to the other member who may accept or decline the offer to swap. If the offer is accepted, you will be connected directly to the other member to coordinate the details of the swap. Details of the swap should include information about keys, parking, pets, vehicles, and any other pertinent information you will both need to coordinate a successful swap. Stay in contact with the member as the date approaches to ensure that you have a good sense of the home and surrounding community. Then enjoy your vacation!

Why should I use Teacher Home Swap?

You want to swap homes instead of pay for a hotel. You value the security of swapping homes with someone who likely has similar life/work experiences.

How do I find good teacher communities when traveling?

Join Teacher Home Swap. You’ll be part of a great national teacher community that is happy to share the details of their local neighborhoods.

Benefits and Costs of using a home swap versus using a hotel.

Actual cost - Teacher Home Swap costs $100/year vs. hotels which easily cost $100/night before tax, parking, etc..

You will be welcomed into the community, not just a tourist. Making a swap with a community member who is actively engaged through teaching will provide you with a more fulfilling travel experience. You can use your teacher swap partner as your personal connection (for ideas, introductions, and insider knowldege)

A potential downside to swapping: you have to clean up after yourself. However, there are a number of options for hiring outside help on this if you are not excited to do this.

What if something happens to my home or the home I’m staying in during the swap?

With our teaching community, you do have some comfort in knowing all teachers are verified, but unfortunately accidents can happen. Breaks, spills, stains, and other accidents are the responsibility of the partner who stayed in your home

Please take a close look at the Member Agreement as this discusses the legal agreement that you have with other members of the community. This is a comprehensive document that should be fairly easy to navigate to find the agreement you are entering into with other members of the community. We are hoping everyone in our network is an active and engaged member of our community who treats others with respect.

On top of this, there are also a number of insurance companies who your could reach out to for potential coverage.

How does cleaning work?

We recommend that members come up with a basic checklist for cleaning and ask partners to do a basic tidy up before the depart. Here is a checklist that may get you started

Alternatively, you can agree prior to your swap to use a service like Merry Maids to provide cleaning services

Are pets okay?

Members can agree upon allowing pets and conditions for allowing pets in their home. Some members may charge a small deposit or fee outside of Teacher Home Swap for allowing pets.

How does teacher verification work?

We use a Third Party Verification service called Sheerid. They have an extensive database where they can tap into for instant verification. If there is a gap in the database, all you have to do is submit the appropriate paperwork (licensure/contract) and Sheerid will manually verify you in in the system. While robust, this system is not completely foolproof, so please let us know if you run into any complications with the verification process.

How does billing work?

In order to protect you and your sensitive information, Teacher Home Swap does not maintain your Credit Card information on our servers. We use Authorize.net (an affiliate of Wells Fargo) to complete all Credit Card Transactions. Their secure servers and processes help to ensure that your data will be managed using all of the most up-to-date security protocols. Always be sure to check with us if you have any questions.

If you are coordinating a swap with another teacher where you have arranged payment, this is between you and your partner. Always be careful when supplying sensitive information. This billing process is on the terms that the members have agreed to with each other, and any billing/payments of this sort are done outside of the Teacher Home Swap scope and agreements.

I accidentally deleted my property. Is there a way to recover it?

Unfortunately, no. Due to our desire to maintain your security, we do not store deleted properties on our site. So, there is no way to recover a deleted property on Teacher Home Swap.

Why should I refer a friend?

The refer a friend program is one of the many ways we like to give back to you. If you refer a friend, and they use your code to subscribe, you will receive a credit of $10 towards your next year’s subscription. That is $10/reference. Easy for all you math teachers out there, but that means if you refer 10 teachers, your next year is FREE!

Thank you for your interest in Teacher Home Swap! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send us an email!
